HOUSE OF REPS ASK PRESIDENT BUHARI TO DEDICATE 3 BILLION NAIRA WEAPONS PRODUCTION THROUGH PARTNERSHIP

The house of representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to dedicate three billion Naira for local production of arms and ammunition through partnership.

This was moved as a motion of urgent public importance by Mr. Ibrahim Halims at the plenary in Abuja.

Mr Halims said local production of forearms through collaboration with Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna National Metallurgical development center (NMDC) with security agencies will combat the rising wave of terrorism and insecurity in the country.

Mr Halims added that efforts by the federal government to import arms and ammunitions from some western countries have met brick walls while urging the government to harness the country’s abundant human and material resources to meet the immediate needs of the security agencies.

He alluded the creation of a military vehicle by Dicon Kaduna through the local content initiative which was commissioned by President Buhari and has been deployed in the battlefield in Borno state with confirmed efficacy.

He concluded that local production of armory, weapons and other military equipment will conserve foreign exchange while creating wealth and employment opportunities for youths.

The house resolved that a special team of professionals from the two agencies of government involved in the proposed partnership should be set up for the immediate take-off of the pilot project.

The house mandated its committee on defence to coordinate the involved agencies.
