MINERS GET MATCHING ORDERS TO PRODUCE QUALITY BARITE TO MEET IMPORT STANDARD

Association of Barite Miners and processors in Nigeria have been called upon to match the import quality and price of barite to match the international standard.
The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite made the call when the association of barite miners and processors paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Mr. Adegbite said Barite should not be based on guesswork, but its deposit should be empirically proven.
The Minister promised to work with the Association to ensure an executive order is in place to protect the barite environment, local industry and to save foreign exchange.
Earlier, the National chairman association of barite miners and processors in Nigeria, Prince Stephen Alao, said in Africa, Nigeria has the highest barite deposit and the quality has proven to be the best.
Mr. Alao said huge amount of money has been wasted in the past looking for barite deposit. He urged the ministry to intervene, empower, engage and uplift barite operators for optimum results
