NGO OFFERS FREE EYE SCREENING FOR 65 SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Poor eye sight has been identified as one of the reasons, pupils do not perform well in school.

Founder and managing director of Leader Joe 1808 Foundation, Mr Leader Joseph Onus, highlighted this during a free medical eye screening and treatment for junior secondary school students in Area 11, Garlic, Abuja.

 

NGO offers free eye screening for 65 students

65 student and five teachers of Junior Secondary School, Area 11, Garki Abuja on Thursday received free eye medical screening organised by a Non Governmental Organization, LeaderJoe 1808 Foundation.

The Chairman of the Foundation,

 

Mr Onus, said, children need good sight in order to perform well in school.

“ Some students do not perform well in class not because they are not intelligent, but because they have poor eye sight and they cannot understand what is written on the board.

“ All they need is treatment to help them understand what they are taught,” he said.

Speaking on the screening excercise, Mr Onus said the screening phase is the foundation plan for medical outreaches.

“ The first phase is screening and the second phase is treatment, but we will need to seek the parents permission before the treatment can start.”

Mr Onus said, in collaboration with Alpha Zone Eye clinic, thee foundation is glad to put smiles on the face of the children and they are open to more support.

Speaking othe importance of the excercise, One of the teachers, Miss Wemere Chinwendu, said the outreach is timely and necessary, as a lot of students were in need of the eye check up.

She also encouraged the foundation to sustain the gesture, while urging other NGOs to emulate the gesture do more in the area of humanitarian work.

The students appreciated the screening exercise and commended the warm reception by the members of the foundation and doctors.
