PRESIDENT BUHARI SIGNS BILL ON NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE 2019

President Muhammadu  Buhari has signed into law, a Bill on Nigerian Correctional Service Twenty Nineteen.
The Act repeals the Prisons Acts and changes the name from Nigerian Prison Service to Nigerian Correctional Service.
The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly matters, Senator Ita Enang disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja.
According to senator Ita Enang, the Act empowers the state controller of the service to reject more intakes of inmates where it is apparent that the correctional center is filled to capacity.
He added that the new Act would facilitate speedy disposal of cases of persons awaiting trial.
The presidential aide also disclosed that the President had signed a Bill on Federal Universities of Agriculture (Amendment Bill) Number Two Twenty nineteen.
He said the Act has changed the name of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue state, to Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Markurdi.
