HOME BASED SUPER EAGLES TO FACE HAWKS OF TOGO IN AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP

The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Hawks of Togo in the second round of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers over two legs.

Togo defeated Benin Republic by a goal to nil over two legs to set up the clash with Nigeria who was the 2018 CHAN runners-up.

The first leg of Togo versus Nigeria CHAN qualifiers game will be held in Lome on the weekend of September 20th to the 22nd, while the reverse fixture will be decided in Nigeria during the weekend of October 18th to the 20th.

A victory for the home-based Eagles against Togo will afford them another opportunity to vie for the crown they lost in the final match to Morocco last year.

Meanwhile defending champions Morocco will play North African rivals Algeria for a spot in next years’ tournament.

In the qualification series, 47 countries began the process with only 15 assured of featuring in the competition scheduled for Cameroon.

Our sports correspondent Ifesinachi Ekwueme reports that the African Nations Championship competition is reserved for players who are based in their domestic league to give them the opportunity to compete and gain international experience
