REPS COLLABORATES WITH NDLEA & AN NGO TO CURTAIL SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONGST STUDENTS

 

The House of Representatives committee on Youth Development in collaboration with the NDLEA and A New Thing International foundation, has designed a program to enlighten and Equip secondary school students with Knowledge and Resources to curtail the consumption and abuse of illicit substances.

Chairman House of Reps Committee on Narcotic Drugs, Dr. Francis Ottah Agbo represented by the Committee consultant, Mr. David Eke, said the program, “Drug Abuse in a School Environment” seeks to Train and initiate an evidence-based Drug sensitization program in Schools.

The Program will also create a School drug policy and reduce loopholes through which drugs get into schools.

Also speaking, AIG Aisha ABUBAKAR gave the assurance of the Inspector General’s dedication to working against drug peddlers and his willingness to continue to partner with organizations to tackle the menace.

In his speech, Senator Dino Melaye, advocated for a mandatory drug test for politicians before occupying political offices or gaining entry into the university.

Introducing the Educators Guide books on School drug policies the Co-Founders of  A New thing International Foundation, Mr Kenneth Anetor and Mr Eghosa Gold-Idehen spoke on the Adverse Effects of Drugs on The Development of the Nation and the importance of Educators.

They said research had identified Educators as being responsible for creating mindsets in generations noting that the Nationwide campaign for Abstinence and a drug-free Youth most start with them.
